Passed down through the ages to the Dranesville Office that we now share with you so that you may have a few snow days this winter. First, on forecasted winter weather advisory school nights, go outside and hop around a tree three times on one foot and then scatter ice cubes sprinkled with cocoa powder at the trunk. Second, put on your pajamas inside out and backwards. Finally, go to bed precisely when your parents say, and faithfully repeat "I want it to snow, I want it to snow, I want it to snow".
County Parks Offer AWESOME Sledding Hills
There are 400 parks in our area on nearly 24,000 acres of parkland owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Some of the parks with the coolest sledding hills are right here in Dranesville! So do your best Snow Dance and check out these hot-spots.
♦ Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston, off Route 606 & Route 7.
-Sledding on the hill behind the picnic area restrooms.
♦ Westgate Park, 7550 Magarity Road, McLean -Sledding behind the second ballfield.
♦ Greenway Heights Park, 8203 Riding Ridge Place, Great Falls.
-Sledding through the stream valley property. Other classic hills include Marie Butler Leven Preserve (Kirby Road in McLean), Nottoway Park (Courthouse Road in Vienna), Burke Lake Park (Route 123 in Burke). Sledding Enthusiasts must furnish their own equipment and sled at their own risk.
Note: Sledding and skiing is prohibited on County golf courses because apparently parents like to play golf even when it snows. Ba-hum-bug Fairfax County. |
